Michael was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in May 2010, with a Bachelor of Science in Criminology & Criminal Justice. He then went on to earn his law degree from the University of Nebraska College of Law in May 2013. While in law school, Michael worked as a law clerk at a family law firm in Lincoln, where he first learned the ins and outs of the unique practice of family law. He was also President of the Moot Court Board, and a member of the Order of the Barristers.

Prior to joining Sauer & Petterson Family Law, Michael was an associate attorney at a small family law firm in the Denver Metro area, where he regularly practiced in Adams, Arapahoe, Broomfield, Boulder, Denver, Douglas, and Jefferson counties. Michael has also practiced in El Paso, Larimer and Logan counties.

In every case, whether it is a dissolution of marriage, parenting time dispute, or a modification of prior orders, Michael works closely with each client to create and achieve their personalized goals, minimize tension and stress, and guide them through the challenges unique to family law cases. Michael is known by his clients for giving specialized attention to each client and his calm demeanor. He understands that these are some of the most stressful periods in a client’s life and works toward helping each family come out of the case as strong as possible.

In his free time, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife Rachel and their dog Lincoln, and cheering on his Nebraska Huskers!
